Los Angeles, CA — BlackBelt Productions and founder David Paladino are now working in association with Lucky Day Studios and Michael Forman to bring Sweet Summer to the screen.
Sweet Summer is a novel by Academy Award-Winning writer William Kelley (Witness). Kelley, along with Rick Baker, adapted the novel into a moving and poignant screenplay about a young, passionate, Irish Catholic who is assigned to the all black Air Force boxing team in the late 1940’s. The team journeys through the deep south to fight for the Armed Forces championship in New Orleans.
Based on Kelley’s real life experience, Sweet Summer delivers a coming-of-age story of love and self-discovery, honor and courage. A hard hitting boxing road trip that brings together the ferocity of Raging Bull and the sweetness of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Last month David returned from Toronto, Canada where he was part of the team scouting locations for the upcoming film, freedom for joe, penned by Lee Burns. (Freaky Friday, Just Like Heaven, and Clean) David is a co-producer on the film and will be playing Brian Taylor, best friend of the lead Joe, played by Burns.
FFJ is a co-production between Michael Pollack of Kerry Kimmel & Pollack and Awareness Entertainment’s Founder and President, Lee Burns, who also joined forces on a two other films. John D. Schofield (Jerry Maguire, As Good As It Gets, Ali, etc.) is also producing while Stephen Bridgewater is directing.
Current attachments include respected industry veteran, Robert Patrick and Beth Riesgraf from TNT’s Leverage.
Los Angeles: Award-winning actor David Paladino and Elisha Johnson were married June 25, 2011 at the Historic Castle Green in Pasadena, California. Approximately 150 guest enjoyed the the romantic and heartfelt ceremony on the castle lawn. “There was not a dry eye in the place”, said the Dream Events coordinator.
The Castle Green was built in 1898 as the annex for the famous Hotel Green. The Castle Green is an imposing seven story Moorish Colonial and Spanish style building sitting next to Central Park in Old Pasadena. The Hotel Green was the social center of Pasadena, playing host to vacationing tycoons, famous Hollywood figures and even presidents. A number of motion pictures and television commercials have been filmed in and around the building including The Sting with Paul Newman and The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise.
David Paladino is an up-and-coming actor who’s starting to get recognized for his diversity and ability to create a multitude of characters. He been called “extraordinary” and “powerful” by the LA Times and NY Times respectively. David also has a very unique life story, he and his family were interviewed on NPR’s hit radio show ‘This American Life’ with Ira Glass. His story is currently being developed into a movie. Look for David next year in the film freedom for joe with Robert Patrick, Anne Archer and Beth Riesgraf.
For their honeymoon, David and his wife, Elisha, took a Mediterranean cruise seeing parts of Italy, Spain, France and Croatia. They currently live in Los Angeles.
